These Were Some Fun Times

Recently I've had the opportunity to attend some pretty fun sporting events. The rist was the Seattle Mariners vs. The Oakland A's game last saturday. The M's played pretty bad, but we were so close it was impossible not to enjoy ourselves. How close were we? how about the FIRST ROW!

Here are some pictures... First, A's pitcher Dan Haren.

Here's one of Ichiro... (if you haven't realized it by now, we were right down the right field line which is his territory. If you're familiar with Safeco Field, we were right behind the tarp.)

And here is one of the group. From Left to right, its Quinn, Me, Scott, and Brandon.

The next game: I went to this Brazilian restaurant down on 1st and University here in Seattle. They have a decent Happy hour special where you can get this 9 dollar sandwhich for 4.50. Its really good. Then, as I'm eating, I realized that Roberto Carlos, a brazilian soccer player was in town with the rest of his powerhouse team Real Madrid. Team members include David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistlerooy, and Cannavaro and many others. Real was in town to play a game at Qwest Field against MLS team DC United.

I said to the Bartender, "Gee, I sure would like to know where they are staying." And the Bartender goes... "I know where they're staying." (No, I'm not going to say where.)

So I called up my buddy Adam, who I've blogged about before, and suggested that we go to find the team. He thought it was a good idea. We walked down to the Hotel and waited in line at the desk. I finally got to the front and said, "Hi, I'm David Beckham, and this is my friend Ronaldo. We're with Real Madrid. I believe you have a room for us." The man at the desk stood there with a confused look and said, "are you playing games with us." Now what I should have said was, "No. We're playing a game tomorrow though. You should come check it out." Instead I said, "Yes. We are playing games with you." He asked if we were guests in the hotel, and when we said no, he said, "Since you're not guests, I can't tell you who is staying here."

So we went and found a couple of guests to ask for us, but the desk guy said he couldn't answer him either. Fortunate for us though, the guests we asked were really cool people. They were from Washington DC and worked for the NSA (National Security Association). They invited us out to dinner, so we decided to go. We ate at the Palamino, a nice Italian Restaurant on 5th. A little too expensive for me, so I just sat and enjoyed the conversation.

When we got back to the Hotel, I went up to a security guard and said, "Its pretty cool Beckham is staying here, huh?" He said that he couldn't confirm or deny anyone to be there." Then I saw some guys walk in, who were quite athletic looking. I thought to myself, That looks like DC United. I said "Good luck tomorrow, guys," to bait them into a thank you or any clue as to whether or not they were actually on the Team. A couple of them said thanks, but not too enthusiastically, so I don't know if it was them or not.

To be continued...
