Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral

Today, three other seminarians and I went down to LA to serve the 10am mass at the LA Cathedral. Of course I remembered the controversy surrounding its construction, and as you can tell from much of the artwork and architecture, it is not the most traditional of Catholic buildings. I was not too fond of the outside. It reminded me of the Huxley building at Western. The inside however, was not bad. I especially liked the communion of Saints tapestry. The color of the inside, sort of a light brown tone, was very nice and relaxing. Overall, it was a good experience. I forgot my camera, so I couldnt take pictures, but I did see where Hollywood actor Gregory Peck was buried in the Crypt.

One thing that made me laugh though, was how everything in the Cathedral was Giant Sized. Huge candles, huge vessels, huge thurible (which has broken a couple of times during Mass) and huge everything else.

In conclusion, the LA cathedral is...interesting. You should check it out if you are ever in LA.

Yeah the outside is kinda interesting looking. But Huxley? Ouch that's rough man, the Huxley building looks like dirty cement. At least the inside looks pretty cool.
